DESCRIPTION: Similar in appearance to its slightly larger cousin, C. sphinx, it can be identified by its much shorter ears with a slight or no pale border and wings with darker ‘fingers’.


DISTRIBUTION: C.b. brachyotis in Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal; C.b. brachysoma in the Andamans and central Nicobar group of islands.

HABITAT: Largely a hill forest species; also found near human habitation.

size: 8–9.6 cm

IUCN status: Least Concern
